The Arthritis Program consists of:
• Orthopaedics
• Rheumatology
• Hand Program
• Osteoporosis

How we will find a cure:

  • The world-first Arthritis Research Platform consolidates clinical and biological data from arthritis patients. Used by all Arthritis Program doctors, it will allow for the systematic study of arthritis to better understand and predict the disease like never before

  • Research priorities that focus on finding a way to diagnose arthritis early and halt the progression of the disease; developing human cartilage from stem cells that can be transplanted into joints, making joint replacement unnecessary; and studying health outcomes to create personalized treatment plans for each and every patient

  • Strategic collaborations to leverage existing expertise and accelerate our timeline to offer early diagnosis and new treatments to patients. Collaborations include those with Dr. Gordon Keller at the McEwen Centre for Regenerative Medicine at University Health Network; Dr. Frank Barry at the Regenerative Medicine Institute (REMEDI) at the National University of Ireland, and Dr. David Jaffray at the Spatio-Temporal Targeting and Amplification of Radiation Response Program (STTARR) at University Health Network

Buchan Family Arthritis Research Centre
Inspired by the care Tina Buchan received at Toronto Western Hospital, the Buchan Family chose to support the creation of state-of-the-art laboratory facilities to accommodate new scientists who will be recruited for ground-breaking research into the disease. The new centre will be an innovation cluster exploring cures for arthritis.
