22nd Annual Gentle Ben Charity Challenge Presents:

The Gentle Ben puts the Fun in Fundraising!

The Ultimate Golf & Entertainment Getaway in support of Cancer Care and Research.

Dear Gentle Ben Golfers,

Over the past 21 years, the Gentle Ben Charity Challenge has raised over $1.6 million to fund cancer support and research programs. We are thrilled to announce our 2019 destination – Memphis, Tennessee.

This year, the GB has it all: southern hospitality, Graceland, ribs, Beale Street and King James and the Lakers against the Grizzlies. The GB has gone to some amazing places in the past, and you will not be disappointed with this year’s venue.

With a style and tradition befitting one of Memphis' grandest, most legendary hotels, The Peabody Memphis offers a magnificent bridge between the "Blues City's" celebrated past and cosmopolitan present.

Known as the “South’s Grand Hotel,” The Peabody is legendary for its charm, elegance, gracious hospitality and rich history. This Memphis icon, opened in 1869, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is world-famous for its five resident ducks, who march daily through the lobby at 11 a.m. and 5 p.m.

When you’re ready to experience Memphis’ most unique and distinctive hotel, The Peabody is waiting.

TPC Southwind

TPC Southwind’s par-70, 7,244-yard championship layout was designed by noted architect Ron Prichard, with PGA TOUR players Hubert Green and Fuzzy Zoeller serving as consultants. The golf course features undulating zoysia fairways, champion Bermuda greens and numerous lakes, streams and ponds. Adding to the charm of the golf course are two grain silos and a windmill, remnants of the dairy farm once located on the site.

In January 2012, TPC Southwind was ranked No. 23 in Golf World magazine’s Exclusive PGA Tour Course Rankings. The golf course has long been rated one of the more challenging courses on the PGA Tour schedule. Five sets of tees, including a family-friendly option on each hole, affords golfers of all abilities a chance to enjoy TPC Southwind.

Among the most notable holes at TPC Southwind are the 165-yard, par-3, 11th hole, considered by some to be a smaller version of the famous 17th Island Green at TPC Sawgrass, forcing a short iron over water to a small island green; the 231-yard, par-3 14th – consistently ranked one of the toughest par-3 holes on the PGA TOUR – which requires a long iron or wood tee to a narrow green protected by water along the entire right side of the undulating green; and the course’s spectacular 461-yard, par-4 finishing hole, requiring a tee shot played alongside a water hazard that protects the entire left side of the fairway.

Mirimichi is a Native American word meaning “place of happy retreat.” This name evolved from the belief that a golf course is a type of sanctuary, and that the game of golf has a rhythm that is a part of the nature that surrounds it. The moment you begin to explore these lush surroundings, you understand the significance of the name. From design to service, Mirimichi provides a world-class golfing experience like no other.

The signature course provides over 7,400 yards of championship-level golf. Faced with deep pit bunkers, elevated greens, swathes of native grassland, waterfalls, and meandering creeks, you will be challenged by its design and inspired by the beauty that surrounds you.

Year after year, we are blown away by the incredible fundraising efforts of our participants.  Although the GB receives some corporate donations, the bulk of our fundraising is carried out by our golfers.

This year, we require each golfer to raise a minimum of $1,000 towards our designated charities; which provide care and support to cancer patients. If you fall a bit short we will be asking you to top it up on your credit card, and you will get a full receipt!!

We continue to make it easy to solicit donations, as people can donate on a secure online site. The online donations have proven to be a powerful tool; so much so that the average GB golfer doubled their previous donation effort. By approaching family, friends, colleagues, and business contacts – and through their own generosity – our golfers have always come through big for us.

Cancer touches everyone, and this year we want to know the cancer-related charities that are most meaningful to you. So please give the GB Committee your input, which will help us decide the specific charities to look at and possibly support.
